Emily Gilliland

Welcome to Family and Consumer Sciences at Douglas High School! My name is Emily Gilliland. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Jacksonville State University with a B.S. in Secondary Education with special honors in Family and Consumer Sciences.

I am newly married to my high school sweetheart (November 2019). We love camping, traveling, watching movies, spending time with family, and cooking. In my free time, I enjoy crafting, decorating, and painting.

I teach courses that fall under the “Human Services” pathway in the Family and Consumer Sciences program. The high school courses that I currently teach are Food and Nutrition, Housing, Creative Arts, Family Wellness. The middle school courses that I currently teach are Teen Discoveries (7th grade) and Teen Connections (8th grade). My focus is to prepare students for life after high school by teaching life skills, as well as helping prepare them for college and/or their careers.

I am also an advisor for the DHS “FCCLA” Chapter. FCCLA is an organization that stands for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. When students become a member of FCCLA, they are provided with community involvement opportunities and are also given the possibility of building communication and leadership skills.
